2017 St. Peter's, A Year in Review

“Sharing Christ and Growing Disciples.”

Friends in Christ,

 2017 was an eventful year for St. Peter’s.  Let me give an overview  in no particular order of some blessings that happened through you this past year as January is always a blessing to look back;

ONE:  The 500th Anniversary Reformation Celebration of the Church:   We were part of a global celebration, marking the 500th anniversary of Luther nailing the 95 thesis to the Wittenberg Door Church.  Marked by special notices in the bulletin, newsletter and other mailings, highlighted through Bible Studies and a 9.5 sermon series on Luther, St. Peter’s took part of this celebration.  Banners, signs, gifts and a special worship service with our choir marked the day in which the Reformation that highlights the clear Bible teaching that salvation is free on Sunday, October 29.  The day was highlighted by a special German Meal that was really extravagant and a trivia with prizes that followed.

TWO:  With a lot of leftover food & combining 2 activities, “Trunk or Treat,” & “The Children’s Reformation Party,” over 250 children, youth, parents & families of all ages, enjoyed the events and the special food held on October 30.  Guests were treated to Bratwurst, German potato salad, and left over snack food from the Trivia 500 night that Friday. It was said that the last guests were eating sloppy joes and pumpernickel bread.    Nearly 40 volunteers made this possible.

THREE:  Children’s ministry combined to present a short program at the 10:45 service on 12/17.  The message was simple and to the point.  Connect/Confirmation also led a Christmas program at the Hasty building the week before to a standing room only crowd.   Connect/Confirmation also were involved in a number of service projects throughout the year.  Plans are also on the way for a St. Peter’s Preschool.

FOUR:  St. Peter’s Sanctuary and Building.  One of the largest blessings came from Sanctuary improvements, namely new carpet and padding. The chancel and storage rooms were also cleaned.  New worship decorations in the color of the church year will also be used to emphasize special worship celebrations.  While the ABC Lift/Elevator was no longer functioning, the congregation moved to reinvest and refurbish the Lower Level.  Electricity, lighting and carpet now adorns this new Adult Educational room which can also hosts dinners and various other parties, the blessing is that this room is already elevator handicap assessable and the ABC room is now the Youth and grade 3-5 Connect Room. The offices, office hallway and lower narthex also received new carpet and clean up.  Our two parking lots received improvement and decorative landscape now fills in the front of the car port area.

FIVE:  St. Peter’s ministry is being shaped by outreach and love for others.  Whether collecting cans or sending another young lady to Hearts and Hope for Uganda, (HH4U).   St. Peter’s is sharpening the focus to assist others.   Our VBS served weekly meals to nearly100 children and adults while raising funds for school supplies and HH4U.  The church picnic honored blue star military families, Christmas gifts, baskets, warm clothing for Peoria Children’s Home, used shoes for Water International, Financial gifts for Texas and Haiti Hurricane victims, St. Peter’s reached out to love in this and many other ways.

FINALLY and most importantly, St. Peter’s continues to baptize, teach, worship, confirm, visit and bring the Gospel to those in all ages in all sorts of situation.   Looking forward to a wonderful 2018 as we ‘Share Christ and Grow Disciples!    Pastor Mews
